Joe Biden picked up a new supporter Sunday after a Texas lawmaker flipped his backing from Democratic presidential primary contender Julian Castro.

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, told CNN’s “State of the Union” it’s time to narrow the 2020 field and unite as Democrats.

“That's why I believe I'm moving my support to Vice President Joe Biden," he said.

The switch comes days after Castro delivered what appeared to be a veiled jab at Biden’s age. He’s 76.

Castro's "delivery could have been different," Gonzalez said.

But the larger issue is that Biden is a "steady ship" with White House experience who can defeat President Donald Trump, he insisted.

"If you're polling in the low single digits and you're not raising resources, I mean it's clearly a recipe for disaster," Gonzalez said.

As for Biden’s gaffes, Gonzalez said he’s not concerned, noting "people make mistakes" and "misspeak.”

"But for the most part, (Biden)'s sharp, he's on target, when you meet with him personally he's clearly in physically good shape,” he said.
