Converted Democrat Charlie Crist, who served as a Republican governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011, marveled at the lead Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has built in the Florida polls over Republican Donald Trump. Florida, generally a swing state, tended to be much closer in past races, Crist said on "The Cats Roundtable" on Sunday.
"I believe Hillary's going to win Florida," Crist told radio host John Catsimatidis. "Recent polling has her up as much as 9 points . . . which is unusual for Florida, because it's always such a close state . . . All we have to do is look back to recent presidential elections . . . The Gore-Bush race comes to mind . . . To have broken out to a 9-point lead . . . with about 70 days left into go is pretty amazing."
The poll Crist was referring to might have been the Tuesday, Aug. 16 Monmouth University poll. The Mason-Dixon Research & Associates poll had Clinton up on Trump just two points 44-42, which was within the four-point margin of error.
One recent Florida poll, from Florida Atlantic University, this week even had Trump up two points.
Crist, 60, is running now as a Democrat to be a Representative for the new Florida Congressional District 13.
