Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are in a dead heat in the face for the White House — tied with 42 percent apiece,
a new CBS News poll reveals.
The survey, conducted after the Republican National Convention and Clinton's pick of Tim Kaine as her vice-presidential running mate, also shows both candidates going up 2 percentage points each from last week.
The CBS News poll, conducted among 1,363 Americans, found Trump's standing after his convention is slightly better than that of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in his run for years ago.
Among Republicans who watched the convention, 83 percent say they now have a more favorable view of the billionaire real-estate developer who was tapped GOP nominee, according to the poll. And 69 percent have a more positive view of their party.
