Journalist Matt Katz, who has intensively covered Chris Christie since 2011, has been signed by Threshold Editions, a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, to write a biography of the Republican governor of New Jersey,
The Christian Science Monitor reported.
The reporter, who established the popular Christie Chronicles blog at Philly.com, now works for radio station WNYC. The book is due out in 2015.
Katz's assessment of Christie is that he is a "mostly by-the-book Republican" who, reputation notwithstanding, can stay cool under pressure. He says Christie has broad popular appeal and that he is in generally good health. Katz does not think "Bridge-gate" diminishes Christie's electoral prospects for a White House bid in 2016.
The book will reportedly deal at length with Bridge-gate, in which key Christie aides are accused of orchestrating politically motivated traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge from New York City as payback to Fort Lee's Democratic mayor for not endorsing the governor's 2013 re-election.
Further complicating the controversy, Christie is reported
to have taken a helicopter to avoid getting entangled in the gridlock.
Katz
has described Christie as a super media-savvy politician who has created his "own reality show, playing up the Jersey guy persona he's cultivated for the national stage."
Katz is said to be a "tough" and "enterprising" reporter. He won several prizes, including the Livingston Award for journalists under 35 for his reporting from Afghanistan, when he worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer, according to
WNYC.
