New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called Texas lawmakers "hypocrites" for voting against a 2012 crucial emergency relief package for New Jersey and New York following Hurricane Sandy.

Sens. Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott last week sent a letter to Donald Trump asking for a major disaster declaration before Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc, urging the president to "provide any and all emergency protective measures available," including federal funding to help with rescue efforts and clean up.

It was the exact same kind of emergency package New York and New Jersey requested.

"The congressional members in Texas are hypocrites, and I said back in 2012 they'd be proven to be hypocrites, it was just a matter of time," Christie said. "We were the disaster that was the longest in waiting in terms of federal aid, and I hope that's not what happens to the folks in Texas."

Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-N.J., also slammed Texas lawmakers, but said he would "support emergency disaster money for those impacted."

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., did not mince words with Cruz.

"Ted Cruz & Texas cohorts voted vs NY/NJ aid after Sandy but I'll vote 4 Harvey aid. NY won't abandon Texas. 1 bad turn doesn't deserve another," he tweeted over the weekend.

Cruz in 2013 said he voted against the measure because it was "loaded up" with billions in new spending unrelated to Sandy.

"Emergency relief for the families who are suffering from this natural disaster should not be used as a Christmas tree for billions in unrelated spending, including projects such as Smithsonian repairs, upgrades to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration airplanes, and more funding for Head Start," he said then.
