Poll: Christie Leads Cuomo in New York 2016 Matchup

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie leads New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo 47 percent to 42 percent among New York voters in a hypothetical presidential matchup in the state, according to a Siena College poll.

But the poll of 806 state voters taken Nov. 11-14 also shows the New Jersey Republican trailing another potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, 56 percent to 40 percent.

It's not a good sign for Cuomo, a Democrat, to trail in his home state to an outsider. His job performance rating has dropped to its lowest level since he became governor in 2011, according to the poll.

A total of 44 percent of voters rate his job performance as positive, while 56 percent rate it as negative. Just last month, he was at 52 percent positive rated while 47 percent voiced a negative view.

But the poll also found that 61 percent of voters still have an overall favorable view of the Democratic governor, while 32 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.

"While Cuomo maintains his nearly 2-to-1 favorability rating, voters are less enthralled with the job he is doing as governor," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in a statement.

The poll has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
