The memo Republicans say shows an anti-Trump bias is "full of innuendo, glaring omissions," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor Monday, according to The Hill.
"It presents evidence without context and jumps to unfounded conclusions," Schumer reportedly said. "We should call it what it truly is: A slanderous memo of GOP talking points."
His comments follow a vote by the GOP-majority House Intelligence Committee to release a memo accusing the Department of Justice and FBI of misusing their authority to get a secret surveillance order on one of Trump's former campaign aides.
Trump has five days to review the document and make a decision on whether to try to block it from the public, but the White House has indicated it wants the memo out.
According to the memo, DOJ and FBI officials reportedly were not forthright when they asked a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge to obtain a warrant for surveillance of Carter Page.
Schumer said a counter memo produced by House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., should have been released, as well.
It would be "absolute hypocrisy" to not release both, he added.
Schumer also said GOP members' attacks on the credibility of the FBI were "beyond the pale."
"They have fueled wild speculation and outright paranoia, talks of coups and deep states and secret societies," he added. "It brings shame on the folks propagating this nonsense."
