Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Thursday slammed President Donald Trump's comments on preparing for next week's summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, saying "the situation is far too dangerous for seat-of-the-pants negotiating."
The New York Democrat took to Twitter after Trump told reporters at the White House that "I don't think I have to prepare very much" for Tuesday's meeting in Singapore.
Trump said the success of the Kim meeting was "about attitude."
"It's about willingness to get things done."
The president made the comments before the start of a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss issues pertaining to Tuesday's summit in Singapore.
"I think I've been prepared for this summit for a long time, as has the other side," Trump said. "I think they've been preparing for a long time also.
"So, this isn't a question of preparation; it's a question of whether or not people want it to happen."
