Nearly every Senate Democrat linked to a potential 2020 run for president voted against Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's deal Monday to reopen the government, The Hill reports.
Schumer is getting blasted from progressives for the vote to reopen the government in exchange for the guarantee of a debate on the Senate floor regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Senate Democrats forced the shutdown due to the absence of permanent DACA protections in the first place, something they still don't have.
The potential 2020 candidates who voted against the measure Monday:
- Sen. Bernie Sanders.
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
- Sen. Kamala Harris.
- Sen. Cory Booker.
- Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
- Sen. Jeff Merkeley.
"I'm disappointed with a conversation that suggests a false choice, you either fund the government or you take care of these DACA kids," Harris said. "I refuse to put the lives of nearly 700,000 young people in the hands of someone who has repeatedly gone back on his word," she added, referring to McConnell.
