Several climate-change advocacy organizations and a top Democratic super PAC are putting $55 million into an ad campaign supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race. The League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund, Environmental Defense Fund Action Votes, and Climate Power Action are joining forces with political action committee Future Forward to launch the ads, which will run in six swing states, plus Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.
Pete Maysmith, senior vice president of campaigns at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), told the New York Times, "When the choice is so stark between Vice President Harris and [former President Donald] Trump, and we know it's going to be a close election, there was a recognition that we needed to join forces."
The alliance, he said, "could put more dollars together jointly to communicate why this is such an important decision from a climate and energy perspective."
The ads will run on broadcast and cable TV, as well as on digital platforms such as YouTube.
According to a press release from LCV, the first three ads focus on Harris' "vision to lower energy costs and create hundreds of thousands of good paying, American jobs in clean energy manufacturing."
They cover Harris' proposed efforts to strengthen the middle class, to triple clean energy production, and to stand up to "big banks" and "big oil" companies.
The coalition said it plans to release more ads aimed at key audiences that "include Black, Latino, and young voters."
