Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is using the popular app Pokemon Go to capture voters and drum up support for the expected Democratic nominee.
According to the
Cincinnati Enquirer, Clinton campaign workers in Ohio have set up camp at Pokestops and Gyms, which are part of the augmented reality game played on smartphones. When players visit those spots, the campaign workers offer them help in registering to vote.
The game debuted July 6 and is targeted at the millennial crowd.
The campaign told the Enquirer its tactic of helping Pokemon players is a good way to reach younger Americans who my not yet be registered voters. Others may have been supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who exited the race and
endorsed Clinton this week.
The game has gone viral in just a few days, although not all of the news is good. In one instance, a player was led to a
woman's body in a Wyoming river. In another, the game was used to lure
robbery victims to a specific location.
The 2016 presidential campaign has seen all candidates use social media in various ways. Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is an avid Twitter user, while Clinton's campaign is active on Snapchat.
