CNN host Don Lemon scolded Democrats that they were “ignoring” riots in Wisconsin and other cities and that it was “showing up in the polls.”
Lemon, known for his liberal views and highly critical monologues of President Donald Trump, implored the party and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to address it.
“The rioting has to stop,” Lemon said Tuesday night. “It’s showing up in the polling. It’s showing up in focus groups. It is the only thing right now that is sticking.”
His comments came on the third night of riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, following the police shooting of a Black man. Thirty-four fires have been associated with the unrest and 30 businesses destroyed or damaged, Kenosha police said.
It also comes amid three consecutive months of riots and protests in Portland, including Tuesday when City Hall was the target of attempted arson, and mayhem in places such as Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta New York and Washington following the death of a Black man in police custody in Minneapolis on Memorial Day.
“I think this is a blind spot for Democrats,” Lemon said. “I think Democrats are ignoring this problem or hoping that it will go away. And it’s not going to go away.”
Characterizing it as a “Rorschach test,” Lemon said Biden could not avoid the issue.
“The problem is not going be fixed by (election day), but what they can do, and I think Joe Biden may be afraid to do it, I’m not sure, maybe he won’t, maybe he is, he’s got to address it,” Lemon said. “He’s got to come out and talk about it.“
