CNN is changing its reporting procedures on the Russia probe following an online story that was published Thursday and then retracted and deleted the next day, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.

In an email sent to CNN employees on Saturday, CNNMoney executive Rich Barbieri wrote, "No one should publish any content involving Russia without coming to me and Jason," referring to a CNN vice president. Buzzfeed obtained the email which also said, "This applied to social, video, editorial, and MoneyStream. No exceptions."

Barbieri wrote he would "lay out a workflow Monday" for the new procedures that pertained to areas of the network other than just CNNMoney, which did not originate the article.

The story that prompted the action involved a claim that Anthony Scaramucci, a member of President Donald Trump's transition team and founder of global investment firm SkyBridge Capital, met with the chief executive of a $10 billion Russian investment firm just days before the president took office.

The story, citing one unnamed source, also claimed the Senate Intelligence Committee was looking into the matter.

An unnamed source in the Buzzfeed story said CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker and the company's human resources chief were "directly involved" in an internal investigation into how the story was originally managed.
