Rep. Doug Collins told Newsmax TV Monday he wishes he has some reaction "other than not being shocked" that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff may not have been truthful about details of a closed-door meeting about Russian interference in the 2020 election being leaked.
"I'm not sure he can spell truth much less tell it," the Georgia Republican told Newsmax TV's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "These leaks in the Intel Committee have got to stop. Adam Schiff does not need to be the chairman of the Intel Committee. There's nothing over there that they won't leak selectively to fulfill a political agenda."
Collins added that he is concerned that leaks are being used to derail Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign, "which has become more-and-more a takeover of the Democratic Party."
Last week, Shelby Pierson, an election security official for the Director of National Intelligence, overstated her case when she told members of Congress that Russia is interfering in this year's election in support of President Donald Trump.
Collins said Russian meddling in U.S. elections is nothing new, however.
"That's just a joke," he said. "Russia's always been an actor."
Hillary Clinton didn't lose the election because of Russia, he added, but because she "didn't know where Wisconsin was. She didn't know how to campaign. She was a terrible candidate."
Collins on Monday also called on a further look to be taken at the nation's Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court.
He pointed to warrants obtained to spy on Carter Page, a campaign aide for Trump's 2016 campaign, which were founded on a fake dossier's evidence that was never verified.
Schiff, however, is "seemingly useless when it comes to wanting to find an answer," said Collins.
