The conservative America Rising PAC is going after Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., as she gets set for the Tuesday release of her new book.
The group acknowledges it also wants to develop "long-term research and communications angles to damage her 2020 (presidential) prospects."
And it adds: "Make no mistake, with the right challenger and a favorable political climate, Sen. Warren's 2018 re-election is no sure thing."
The Washington Times reported that group's "Elizabeth Warren Initiative" is timed to coincide with the release of her new book, "This Fight Is Our Fight: The Battle To Save America's Middle Class."
The book is sparking renewed speculation about her political ambitions, the newspaper said.
"With an eye-popping $9.2 million war chest, including a $5.3 million haul during the first quarter of 2017, Warren will have a bottomless pit of cash to intimidate other would-be presidential hopefuls," said Colin Reed, the group's executive director. "She will use her unlimited funds to try and repair her political image, and this book tour is the first start."
And Politico noted the group hounded Hillary Clinton following the release of her book, "Hard Choices," in 2014.
The website reported the group had maintained a "war room" that monitored Clinton's media appearances in conjunction with her book.
"We view [Warren's] book launch as the soft launch of her presidential campaign," Reed said. "We'll do the same to her as we did with Hillary Clinton in 2014."
