Counselor to President Donald Trump Kellyanne Conway hailed her boss on Wednesday as someone who truly appreciated her contribution to his administration and described a personal side of him rarely portrayed in what was one of her last public appearances before she leaves the White House.
Conway, whose husband has blistered Trump with unrelenting criticism and who told the president on Sunday she would resign her post at the end of the month, praised Trump during the third night of the Republican National Convention for demonstrating confidence in her by selecting her to run his 2016 campaign.
“President Trump helped me shatter a barrier in the world of politics by empowering me to manage his campaign to its successful conclusion,” Conway said. “With the help of millions of Americans, our team defied the critics, the naysayers, the convention wisdom and we won.”
“He has stood by me,” she added. “And he will stand by you.”
Conway also portrayed a compassionate Trump, who has consoled and comforted several individuals facing personal tragedies.
“I have seen first-hand, many times, the president comforting and encouraging a child who has lost a parent, a parent who has lost a child, a worker who has lost his job, an adolescent who lost her way to drugs,” she said. “’Don’t lose hope,’ he has told them, assuring them that they are not alone, and that they matter.”
