President Donald Trump’s “racist” tweets should be “rejected by every American,” says a group of conservative and libertarian lawyers known as Checks and Balances.
The group includes Trump critic George Conway, husband to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.
“As conservatives or libertarians, we have profound disagreements with the policies advocated by the Congressional targets of Trump’s tweets,” a statement issued by the group reads. “But they, like all Americans, are entitled to be treated with respect.”
Trump on Sunday referred to a group of Democratic congresswomen as foreign-born troublemakers who should go back to the “broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
"So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” Trump tweeted.
“Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done."
The tweets were aimed at: New York Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (Puerto Rican descent); Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. (Somali-Yemeni descent); Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass. (African-American born in Chicago); and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. (Palestinian-American).
