Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Thursday he is relieved the criminal case is over involving contact that he made with a former Breitbart News reporter, and said he is open to settling differences.
"I'm open to anything," Lewandowski said when asked about possible reconciliation on Fox News Channel's
"Hannity."
Palm Beach County, Florida State Attorney Dave Aronberg earlier Thursday announced his office
would not be pursuing criminal charges against Lewandowski, whom reporter Michelle Fields had accused of grabbing her arm so hard he left bruises.
Fields was trying to ask Trump a question after a campaign event in Jupiter, Florida.
Lewandowski initially was charged by police with simple battery based on video surveillance footage, but Aronberg said the evidence was not strong enough to warrant prosecution.
The incident has been difficult on his family, Lewandowski told Fox's Sean Hannity.
"I got four young kids. I have a wife who lives in New Hampshire who's been living this whole thing every day, not understanding what's going on, reading the media stories wholly inaccurate because they want to make this a story that doesn't exist.," he said. "It's tough personally."
Lewandowski said as a Catholic and a religious person he believes people deserve forgiveness when they ask for it.
"I'm not saying it in a bad way. What I'm saying, look, life is a long thing and I don't need enemies," he said.
Lewadowski said he believes he and Fields simply remember the incident differently. She initially said she was yanked so hard she almost fell to the floor. Lewandowski said he never touched her. The video showed Lewandowski did grab Fields' arm, but did not almost yank her down.
"You know, when I walked by Michelle Fields that night, I said, 'Excuse me, thank you.' I was trying to walk between her and Mr. Trump, and that's what polite people say: excuse me and thank you," Lewandowski said. "I don't remember anything more than that. And I didn't know anything about it until I looked at her Twitter feed hours later when I was being accused of being a thug."
