Sen. Cory Booker and his family are getting increased security at their home after the New Jersey Democrat received a death threat, ABC News reported.
"The Newark Police Division has been notified by the United States Capitol Police regarding a threat on the life of New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and his family members," Newark, N.J., Mayor Ras Baraka told the news outlet in a statement Saturday.
"As a result, members of the Police Division’s Executive Protection Unit have been assigned to provide security at the Senator’s residence in Newark," the mayor added.
Newark is now coordinating efforts with Capitol Police “to ensure Senator Booker is able to carry out his duties of serving New Jersey's residents in Congress in a safe manner,” the mayor said in a statement, ABC News reported.
No other details were released, the news outlet reported.
Booker was part of a Democratic Party effort in Alabama on behalf of Senate candidate Doug Jones, and has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the White House in 2020.
