Contrarian conservative Ann Coulter bucked the backlash against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for her proposed income tax on the mega-rich.
In a “60 Minutes” interview airing Sunday night, the freshman lawmaker floated the idea of a “Green New Deal” to stop the climate change crisis that could be funded with a $70 percent income tax on $10 million annual earners.
She was harkening back to 1932, when Congress raised the marginal income-tax rate on top earners to 63 percent — which rose even further over the years, reaching a max of over 90 percent and never going below 70 percent — until it was slashed in the 80s. In 2018, the highest rate on earned income was dropped from 44 percent to 37 percent.
The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro called the retro idea “bats*** insane.”
But Coulter embraced it in an enthusiastic tweet.
“I agree,” Coulter said of the massive 70-80 percent tax on the rich, suggesting “Start with the Koch Bros.- and also make it WEALTH tax.”
