With few words on immigration reform in the latest Democrat presidential primary debate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., fired a Christmas salvo at the Trump administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Warren tweeted:
One year ago today, Felipe Gómez Alonzo died in CBP custody. He was just eight years old. This Christmas, I'm heartsick for all of the families who won't be celebrating together today because of the Trump administration's cruel treatment of immigrants and asylum-seekers.
Warren's campaign website lists "a fair and welcoming immigration system" on her platform plan.
"We must address the humanitarian mess at the border and reverse this president's discriminatory policies," the campaign website reads under the immigration topic. "But that won't be nearly enough to fix our immigration system.
"We need expanded legal immigration that will grow our economy, reunite families, and meet our labor market demands. We need real reform that provides cost-effective security at our borders, addresses the root causes of migration, and provides a path to status and citizenship so that our neighbors don't have to live in fear."
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security was cleared of any wrongdoing in the case of Felipe Gómez Alonzo's death by an internal inspector, according to The Hill.
