Dana Perino, former press secretary for former President George W. Bush and current panelist on Fox News Channel's
"The Five," ripped into GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday for his comments about her ex-boss' responsibility for the 9/11 attacks.
"I think it's a dismal theory when you have a liberal conspiracy theme," Perino said on "The Five." "It is soft trutherism," she added, compairing it to "a soft racism."
"You put it out there for a reason because I guess you want to be provocative," she said. "Even if none of the facts add up."
Perino was responding to
Trump's comments to Bloomberg News on Friday and
"Fox News Sunday" that his own immigration policies would have kept the 9/11 hijackers from having been in the United States to begin with. He said he didn't blame Bush for the attacks, but added that he was the one in the White House at the time.
"Even the left doesn’t do what Donald Trump does," Perino said. "Only the farthest right lunatics were truther. And this is now the Republican Party?"
