Former Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod slammed Howard Dean Wednesday for linking Donald Trump and cocaine in a tweet during Monday's debate with Hillary Clinton.
Here's Axelrod's Twitter post:
Dean, a physician and former Democratic National Committee chairman, sent his tweet during the debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
Trump on Tuesday denied to Fox News that he was sniffing, but instead blamed the sounds on his microphone.
But Dean doubled down on his post later Tuesday.
"That is actually a signature of people who use cocaine," Dean told Kate Snow on MSNBC.
"I'm not suggesting that Trump does, but I'm suggesting we think about it, because here's the interesting constellation — he sniffs during the presentation, which is something that users do," he said.
"He also has grandiosity, which is something that accompanies that problem.
"It's something I think it'd be interesting to ask him and see if he ever had a problem with that."
