Sen. David Perdue praised President Donald Trump's immigration reform proposal, saying it hits a "brilliant sweet spot."
"I think the president has hit a brilliant sweet spot here, and I can't imagine why Democrats or any Republicans wouldn't support this, because it solves the four basic elements that he laid out a few weeks ago," the Georgia Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Monday.
The proposal provided a path for those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to gain U.S. citizenship, and also called for $25 billion in border security, eliminating the visa lottery, and curbing chain migration.
"What he has found here is a middle ground that solves the four basic areas that the Democrats say they want at various times in the past and Republicans have said they wanted," Perdue said.
"Sure, there are going to be complaints about any one of the facets. But what it does is provide certainty for this DACA population, but it also eliminates the cause that got us here in the first place," Perdue continued.
And "the only reason people would avoid voting for this is because of political self-interest. If you look at it in its entirety, it's a great bill for America."
