Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., told Newsmax on Wednesday that she hopes the Senate will "move forward" with President Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees to head the Departments of Commerce and Health and Human Services.
Fischer, who sits on the Senate Commerce Committee, told "Wake Up America" that her panel will hold a confirmation hearing later on Wednesday for Howard Lutnick, Trump's nominee to lead the Commerce Department. She noted that Lutnick and the panel "had a great conversation, a great meeting" ahead of the hearing in which they "talked about trade" and "broadband deployment."
The senator continued, "I think what we're seeing from President Trump are a number of really, really good nominees. So I'm looking forward to watching the hearings on all the nominees, being able to visit with my colleagues … and hopefully, we're going to be able to move forward and give President Trump the nominees that he needs."
When asked where she stands on Kennedy's confirmation ahead of his hearing before the Senate on Wednesday, Fischer said, "I haven't had the opportunity to meet with [Kennedy] personally, so I'm going to be watching the committee hearing that Finance will have and depend on my colleagues to be able to ask those questions."
