The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Thursday said it was targeting two additional House races ahead of the general election as concerns ratchet up about President Joe Biden's chances against former President Donald Trump.
"John Mannion and Eugene Vindman are exemplary public servants who have dedicated their careers to serving our country and their communities. Voters can trust them to always be vocal advocates for their districts and our democracy," DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., said in a statement. "I look forward to working with them to reclaim the House majority and get Congress back to work to deliver for the middle class."
Mannion is running to flip New York's 22nd District while Vindman, the Army vet who reported the 2019 phone call between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that led to Trump's first impeachment on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, is looking to succeed Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., in the state's 7th District.
The Cook Political Reports rates both districts as "Lean Democrat."
The DCCC's "Red to Blue" program is a "highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue building winning campaigns," according to the group.
Biden's candidacy is still under question as the first Senate Democrat, Peter Welch of Vermont, and now 11 House Democrats, have called on Biden to end his reelection campaign. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., George Clooney, and George Stephanopoulos also weighed in with doubts about Biden's cognitive ability to be reelected to a second term.
