Dick Morris to Newsmax TV: Democratic Party Shows 'Pessimism' Over Coronavirus

The Democratic Party hoped that bad coronavirus statistics would harm the approval rating for President Donald Trump but that has proven to be a "terrible mistake," former presidential adviser and campaign consultant Dick Morris told Newsmax TV.

"The Democratic Party showed itself to be the party of pessimism. And the Republican Party is the party of optimism about America. The Democrats made a terrible mistake, a colossal mistake, in betting it all on the virus," Morris told Monday's "Stinchfield."

Trump's poll numbers have inched up in the latest Gallup poll since civil unrest unraveled cities around the country more than two months ago.

The average coronavirus daily infections have fallen below 43,000 for more than a month.

"Well, the virus stats have gone down. July 27 there were 72,000 new cases. Yesterday, there were 36,000. And it's been dropping constantly. The point is the whole convention will be dismissed by a few statistics that are going to come out," Morris said.
