Democrats are set to make gun control a key issue in Nevada as they strategize how to win the seat now held by Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., The Hill reports.

Following the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Democrats are planning to pour over Heller's record on gun control, according to the website. Heller is considered the most vulnerable Repubican senator up for re-election in 2016, according to the Hill.

"When we're done grieving, I think it's time to bring up the issue that certain politics are killing people in the United States," said Maria-Teresa Liebermann, deputy director of the progressive advocacy group Battle Born Progress.

"People not taking action on extended background checks, people constantly blocking any type of progress that we end gun violence."

Critics are already pointing to Heller's 2013 vote against legislation to increase background checks and limit ownership of assault rifles, The Hill reported. And they are also noting his support for a Senate bill, which would expand the right to carry concealed weapons.

Meanwhile, Heller, who flew to Las Vegas following the murders, said he was praying for the victims of the tragedy. He urged people in the city to donate blood to help the wounded.
