David Brock, the founder of liberal watchdog Media Matters, finds himself on the outs with many in the Democratic Party after Hillary Clinton's loss in the presidential election.
According to The Daily Beast, some in the Democratic Party think Brock — a Clinton surrogate who tried to paint a poor picture of President Donald Trump during the election — has done more harm than good to their cause.
"His ability to produce wins for Democrats is nonexistent," Jeff Weaver, a former campaign manager for Sen. Bernie Sanders' failed presidential bid last year, told the Daily Beast. "He does not have the kind of understanding of what kind of coalition you have to bring together to win national races — that's his fundamental problem."
Brock and Media Matters tried to help Clinton during her campaign via opposition research, anti-Trump ads, and other methods. The efforts all fell short, as Clinton lost to Trump, 306 electoral votes to 232.
As The Daily Beast noted, supporters of Clinton, former President Barack Obama, Sanders, and others do not feel like Brock's contributions are helping their party as they seek to recover and regroup for the next election cycle.
Brock, however, told the website the groups he's put together "are committed to a more progressive America. I'm interested in building third-party organizational capacity to resist and oppose Donald Trump. I think that should be everybody's goal on the left, to destroy Donald Trump, not to destroy each other."
A recent report talked about a state-of-the-art Trump War Room" to "defeat Trump through impeachment" that was put together by Brock's super PAC American Bridge.
Last month, Brock called for an independent third party to examine what went wrong for Democrats on Election Day.
