Democrats are pushing for the Senate Judiciary Committee to hold public hearings with Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner as part of the investigation into possible collusion with the Trump campaign and Russia, The Hill reports.

Democrats on the committee, led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., have sent a letter to committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, asking him to schedule the open hearings. They are also requesting Grassley to issue subpoenas if the two won't volunteer to testify in public.

"This is an essential step toward getting us the answers that we need to fulfill our important oversight responsibilities," the senators wrote.

According to the Hill, senators have focused on the two relating to a June 2016 meeting they had at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer, who had offered dirty on opponent Hillary Clinton.

Trump Jr. has said the meeting ended up being a waste of time.

Blumenthal had previously called for Grassley to provide special counsel Robert Mueller with transcripts of the panels earlier interviews with key witnesses in its Russia probe, including Trump Jr., Politico reported.
