Ted Cruz: Dems 'Angry and Out of Their Minds' at Voters

Democrats are "angry and they are out of their minds," but they're not only mad at Republicans — their anger is "directed at the American people," and that anger was on display with Sen. Elizabeth Warren's "slanderous" claims against attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions, Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday.

"They are angry with the voters," Cruz told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" anchor Bill Hemmer. "'How dare you vote in a Republican president, a Republican Senate, a Republican House?'"

And as a result, Cruz said the Senate is seeing "Democrats objecting to every single thing. They are boycotting committee meetings and refusing to show up. They are just — they are foaming at the mouth practically."

Following her loss to Trump, Hillary Clinton has been deemed as being too moderate, Cruz continued, so Democrats are turning to people like Warren and Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who are "more extreme and on the fringes."

Tuesday night, the Senate voted along party lines to silence Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, when she attempted to read out loud a letter from Coretta Scott King, the widow of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. that strongly criticized Sessions at the time he had been nominated as a federal judge in 1986. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cited Senate Rule 19 against imputing a fellow senator.

Warren lashed out at Sessions, said Cruz, because she was "really lashing out at the American people because she is angry about the election."

"The charges she was making against Jeff Sessions are very false," said Cruz, who was not on the Senate floor because he was participating in a debate on healthcare with Sanders, also a former presidential candidate, on CNN.

"They're slanderous and ugly."

Her arguments used one of the Democrats' "crutches," said Cruz: Claims of racism.

"When the left doesn't have any other arguments they go and accuse everyone of being a racist and it is an ugly part of the modern Democratic Party," the Texas senator told Hemmer.

"Jeff Sessions is an honorable, decent person . . . we heard from witnesses, people involved in these false charges, and I'll point out, the Democrats are the party of the Ku Klux Klan. You look at the most racist.

"The 'Dixiecrats,' they were Democrats who imposed Jim Crow laws and founded the Klan. Now the Democrats accuse anyone they disagree with of being a racist."

Warren's comments, Cruz said, were a "false smear" of Sessions, and he believes the Alabama GOP senator will make an "extraordinary attorney general. After eight years we deserve an attorney general who is faithful to the law and the Constitution."

Cruz also commented Trump is "exactly right" when it comes for his call on extreme vetting of people entering the United States from countries affected by terrorism.

"Our federal immigration laws give enormous authority to the question over the question of refugees and immigrants," Cruz said. "Congress has passed immigration laws that explicitly give the president the authority to keep out any class of aliens who pose a threat to this country."

The case went before the 9th District Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Tuesday, but Cruz did not have high hopes for the court there to rule in favor of Trump, as the court there is the "most liberal and activist court of appeals in the country."

"At the end of the day, the president has the authority to keep us safe, and for eight years President [Barack] Obama refused to do so and kept letting in refugees, who the FBI told us they couldn't vet to determine whether or not they were ISIS terrorists," Cruz said. "President Trump was right this morning."

And as the 9th Circuit court is "famously activist and lawless," Cruz expects the case to appear before the Supreme Court.

"I hope if and when this case gets to the Supreme Court, the more liberal justices there don't let their political and partisan leanings cloud their decision," Cruz said.
