A Republican congressman admonished Democrats on several occasions during two town hall events over the weekend.

According to Fox6Now.com, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin resorted to banging his gavel and hurling verbal warnings to liberals in the audience of his events in Pewaukee and Elm Grove.

"We had eight years where our side did not win the election," Sensenbrenner said to the crowd, which led to an exchange between himself and two women. "I don't think we saw the type of bitterness and divisiveness that we're seeing now.

"You can either sit down and wait your turn or go out in the hallway," Sensenbrenner said.

Sensenbrenner has been in Congress since 1979. Before that, he was a politician at the state level starting in 1969.

Topics of discussion at the town hall meetings covered President Donald Trump's executive action on immigration, the Affordable Care Act, and more. People in the audience held up signs that said either "disagree" or "agree" when Sensenbrenner presented his position on issues. With a largely liberal audience, most of the signs being held up read disagree.

According to the local Fox affiliate, Sensenbrenner used his gavel amid out-of-control shouts from the audience. He even said at one point, "be respectful."

A police officer was stationed in the corner of the room and appeared to be watching intently to the heated exchanges between members of the audience and the congressman.

Sensenbrenner is a member of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees. He is part of four subcommittees, including the Immigration and Border Security panel — of which he is the chairman.
