President Donald Trump on Thursday ripped Democrats for "slow-walking" his nominees — predicting it would "nine years" to confirm them at the current pace — before tweeting his support for Mike Pompeo's confirmation as secretary of State.

"The Democrats are obstructing the process and we need these people approved for the good of our country," Trump said in his tweetstorm.

The president then tweeted Pompeo, the current CIA director who was nominated to the top diplomatic post last month, was "a success at whatever he has done."

"We need the Senate to approve Mike ASAP," Trump added.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell adjourned the upper chamber early this week to allow Democrats to attend several fundraising events on the West Coast, The Washington Free Beacon reported Tuesday.

As of late last month, 129 Trump nominees are awaiting Senate confirmation, according to news reports.

They include Richard Grenell, who was nominated by President Trump ambassador to Germany in September.

Others include Carlos Muniz, general counsel at the Education Department; Annie Caputo and David Wright, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; and Anthony Kurta, a principal deputy undersecretary at the Defense Department.
