In a letter to President Donald Trump, 107 House Democrats say they strongly disapprove of the administration’s proposed Israeli-Palestinian peace plan.
“Our concern is both with the substance of your plan, which will exacerbate and entrench conflict rather than resolve it, and with the timing of its release,” they wrote on Thursday.
“Of utmost concern, your proposal effectively paves the way for permanent occupation of the West Bank. It endorses unilateral annexation of Israeli settlements, as well as the Jordan Valley.
“While your proposal uses the language of statehood for Palestinians, its provides for far less than an actual viable state.”
The letter expresses the lawmakers concern that the administration has developed a proposal without consulting Palestinians. The letter said it is a proposal that “no Palestinian leadership could plausible accept.”
They maintained the plan will “hurt Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
“It does not have our support, and the Israel government must not take it as license to violate international. Law by annexing all or portions of the West Bank,” the lawmakers said.
The letter was spearheaded by Reps. Alan Lowenthal of D-Calif. and Andy Levin, D-Mich., according to The Hill.
