Eccentric and flamboyant former NBA star Dennis Rodman, pushing to be a peace envoy for the U.S. and President Donald Trump in talks with North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un, tweeted a photo of Kim in a "Make American Great Again" hat Friday.
Rodman, who has drawn criticism for his friendship with NBA fan Kim since 2013, last visited North Korea in June. Days later, American prisoner Otto Warmbier was returned to the U.S. in a vegetative state, being pronounced dead shortly after.
Rodman nicknamed Kim "the Marshal" and maintains a relationship with President Trump, with whom he worked on a season of "Celebrity Apprentice." On his last visit to North Korea, he gifted Kim a copy of the book "Trump: The Art of the Deal."
"I've been trying to tell Donald since day one: 'Come talk to me, man . . . I'll tell you what the Marshal wants more than anything . . . It's not even that much,'" Rodman told The Guardian.
When President Trump announced a May meeting being planned with Kim, Rodman congratulated him.
"Well done, President Trump," Rodman said. "You're on the way to a historical meeting no U.S. president has ever done.
"Please send my regards to Marshal Kim Jong Un and his family."
