President Donald Trump is expected to give Reps. Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Monday, according to three sources knowledgeable about the intentions, Axios reported on Sunday.
Nunes, of Califorina, is one of the president’s closest allies and an ardent backer of his attempts to undermine the Justice Department’s probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. He's expected to receive the medal on Monday.
The former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee has accused both the FBI and the Justice Department of bias against Trump during Robert Mueller's Russia investigation.
Jordan, another ardent Trump backer, is expected to receive his medal next week.
Trump first raised the possibility of giving Nunes the nation’s highest civilian honor a few years ago, telling “Fox & Friends” in October 2018 that “What he’s gone through, and his bravery, he should get a very important medal.”
In his final weeks in office in the White House, Trump has been rewarding friends and supporters with pardons and in other ways, according to the Post.
