Special counsel Robert Mueller and Manhattan federal prosecutors are reportedly examining a high-powered meeting ahead of President Donald Trump's inauguration that involved former House Intelligence Committee chair Devin Nunes, ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and dozens of foreign officials.

The Daily Beast, citing three unnamed sources, reported the breakfast meeting took place at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 18, 2017. About 60 people were invited, including diplomats from around the world.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Manhattan federal prosecutors are scrutinizing the breakfast meet in their probe of the Trump inaugural committee and whether it misspent funds and if donors tried to buy influence at the White House.

Meuller is also looking at the breakfast as part of his probe of whether foreigners contributed money to the Trump inaugural fund and PAC by using American intermediaries, The New York Times has reported.

Prosecutors are probing whether the alleged donations were made in an attempt to buy influence over U.S. policy.

The investigation is focused on whether people from Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, disguised donations they made to both funds by using straw donors, the Times reported.

Mueller's team has also asked Flynn about the event, the Daily Beast reported.

Nunes, the former House Intelligence Committee Chairman, is a staunch ally of Trump. This is the first meeting Nunes attended that has reportedly been under investigation by Mueller, according to the Daily Beast.

The breakfast was organized in part by the Pluvious Group, an organization that helped raise money for the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign, according to the Daily Beast. It was held the day after the Global Chairman's dinner, an exclusive event connected to the inauguration that was attended by many diplomats.

Flynn has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contact with Russians.
