House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said Wednesday his committee will continue, "with or without" critics such as top committee Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, with its investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election.
"We always want to keep the committee bipartisan, but at the end of the day, we'll do an investigation with or without them, and if they want to participate, that's fine," the California Republican told Fox News, during a quick hallway interview Wednesday morning.
But at the same time, Nunes continued, "the facts are pretty clear they have no — we don't even know who the witnesses are they want to call. I would encourage you guys to start to follow them around and figure out who they want to bring in and interview."
Nunes, meanwhile, said that Democrats on the committee have "done little to look through the documents the intelligence community provided. We'll see who is doing a real investigation and you'll find out we're very much doing an investigation and have been for a long time."
Earlier on Wednesday, Schiff called on Nunes to recuse himself from the probe, telling "CBS This Morning" that Nunes is too close to the White House.
Schiff also accused Nunes of canceling a hearing this week because former acting Attorney General Sally Yates had been expected to testify, although he admitted he didn't have any "particular evidence" to back up his claims.
"The timing certainly raises a lot of questions, and the fact that the hearing was canceled abruptly without any explanation causes a lot of us to ask what's going on here, why we aren't going forward with this hearing," Schiff said.
