Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova is blasting the whistleblower that kicked off the impeachment inquiry and comparing him to Abraham Lincoln's assassin.

His comments came during a Monday interview on the Washington, D.C.-based radio show "Mornings on the Mall."

The whistleblower's concerns about President Donald Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sparked the ongoing impeachment inquiry. Congressional public hearings regarding the call are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

"What you're going to see this week is a sham," diGenova said. "This is a political assassination. This is a decapitation of a president. This is regicide. This has nothing to do with the lawful processes of the U.S. Constitution. Exhibit A: They don't want us to identify the key person who made the accusation that started the impeachment process.

"I have given him a name for purposes of all my public commentary. The whistleblower/anonymous informant … his name is as follows: John Wilkes Booth. That's the name of the informant … he is part of a political assassination. It's now underway, and all of the listeners should realize that that's what this is about. This is a fraud on the Constitution and a fraud on the American people."
