The new head of the Democratic Party lashed out Sunday at President Donald Trump for calling the leadership vote "rigged," saying there ought to be a probe of whether Trump and Vladimir Putin were in "cahoots" during the 2016 election.
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez turned the table on the president's Sunday morning tweet.
"Our unity as a party is our greatest strength and its his nightmare," the former labor secretary under President Barack Obama said.
"We need to look at whether this election was rigged by Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin," he said, adding:
"We need an independent investigation because that is a serious, serious issue, and the American people need to understand what the Russians in cahoots with the Trump folks and others rigged the elections…"
