Bob Gardner's work has sold the brand for Republican politicians for decades. Now, Gardner is working to walk back the brand of what he calls a "Republican in drag," Politico New York reports.

Donald Trump.

Gardner has launched a four-spot online advertising campaign titled "Why Trump" that is now up on YouTube, as he believes Trump will do more damage to the GOP and the country as president.

"Trump is the leader of the Trump party," Gardner told Politico.

Gardner has been the lead advertising machine for Gerald Ford and Dick Cheney, and has created TV spots for other Republicans, such as Mitt Romney, George H.W. Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

What outcome would Gardner like to see from his message?

"If Hillary falters through FBI investigations or other problems, then [Vice President Joe] Biden and maybe [Michael] Bloomberg will emerge," he told Politico. "Meanwhile, Romney is sitting on the bench with his hand up high saying, 'Put me in. Put me in. I promise not to blow it this time.'"
