A majority of voters believe that it is a good idea for President Donald Trump to reach out to Democrats in Congress, according to a Rasmussen poll posted Wednesday.
In the poll:
- 66 percent of voters said it was good for the country for Trump to work with congressional Democrats.

Another question asked whether Trump should continue working with both parties.
- 65 percent said Trump should reach out more to Democrats.
- 19 percent said the president should keep relying on Republicans.
- 16 percent were not sure.
Republicans in the poll were more favorable of Trump working with Democrats than were Democrats themselves.
- 72 percent of Republicans in the poll said they were enthusiastic about Trump working with Democrats.
- 62 percent of Democrats said they were enthusiastic about Trump working with their party.
- 63 percent of voters not affiliated with either party are enthusiastic about Trump working with Democrats.
Breaking down the poll results by party, only about a third of Republican voters believe the president should keep relying on Republicans to enact his policies.
- 35 percent said Trump should keep relying on Republicans.
- 51 percent of Republicans said he should turn to Democrats instead. (79 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of unaffiliated voters agreed.)
Trump is continuing his outreach with Democratic leaders, inviting Schumer and Pelosi to a dinner meeting Wednesday night.
The poll was conducted Sept. 10 and 11 among 1,000 likely U.S. voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, according to the poll report.
