Trump: 'I Think Bruce Ohr is a Disgrace'

By    |   Friday, 17 August 2018 12:28 PM EDT

President Donald Trump lashed out at Justice Department official Bruce Ohr on Friday, calling him a "disgrace" and suggesting his security clearance may soon be revoked.

The president made his comments in a short impromptu press conference as he got set to travel to New York on Friday.

In the past, Trump has referred to former British spy Christopher Steele’s "many meetings" with Ohr. He has said that Ohr’s wife, Nellie, worked for Fusion GPS, the research firm that hired Steele to compile a controversial dossier alleging the Trump campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election.

"The whole thing is a rigged witch hunt," Trump said of the Russia probe on Friday. "They should be looking at the other side. They should be looking at Bruce Ohr and his wife Nellie for dealing with, by the way, indirectly, Russians. They should be looking at Steele. They should be looking at all the FBI guys who got fired and demoted. It’s not us. It is a rigged with hunt. I’ve said it for a long time.

"I think Bruce Ohr is a disgrace."

The Hill reported Ohr worked in the deputy attorney general’s office until late last year. The website said he was demoted after it was learned he had contacts with Steele.

Trump was asked about Ohr’s security clearance and said: "I suspect I’ll be taking it way very quickly."

He then added:  "I think Bruce Ohr is a disgrace with his wife, Nellie. For him to be in the Justice Department and to be doing what he did, that is a disgrace.

"That is disqualifying for Mueller… Mr. Mueller is highly conflicted. In fact (former FBI Director Jim) Comey is like his best friend."
