Donald Trump is beefing up his team ahead of this summer's Republican National Convention, hiring a political attorney to help with his fight for delegates.
William McGinley, according
to Politico, will help Trump's campaign with finding delegates for upcoming primaries and also may look into the backgrounds of convention delegates to search for any issues.
McGinley was the counsel to the rules committee during the 2012 Republican National Convention. According to Politico, he is now a partner at the Jones Day law firm, where Trump's main political attorney Don McGahn also works.
McGinley, reports the website, will be in Florida this week for the RNC's annual spring meeting.
McGinley's arrival to the Trump campaign comes amid talk of
a contested convention and a fierce delegate fight. Trump may come up short of the 1,237 delegate votes needed to clinch the nomination, which could open the door for another candidate — likely Texas Sen. Ted Cruz or Ohio Gov. John Kasich — to step in and earn a spot on the November ballot.
Trump's campaign
has cried foul over the way Cruz has been taking delegates in recent weeks. Cruz and others say they're just working within the parameters of the delegate system, which varies by state.
"Just because he wasn't smart enough to pay attention, he is trying now to bully the process with his rhetoric," former New Hampshire Gov.
John Sununu said Monday.
"Every state is entitled to choose their own process. And every candidate, including all the other candidates, paid attention to that. But he chose to try run a campaign on hot rhetoric instead of doing his homework."
