The Club for Growth continued its attacks on Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Friday, accusing him of touting "liberal big-government policies that Democrats embrace" simply to win votes.
"Donald Trump has turned political pandering into an art form," said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. "In Iowa, Trump gave his full support to ethanol and the federal Renewable Fuel Standard, and supported a subsidy for wind energy."
McIntosh noted that Trump responded to a question on making college more affordable by saying: "Well, the only way you can do it is you have to start some governmental program. … So we’re going to have to start a program."
The conservative grass-roots political group has long denounced Trump's candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. Its super PAC spent $1 million on
television ads slamming the billionaire developer in Iowa last month.
"Donald Trump isn’t fighting for conservative economic principles," McIntosh said. "He's fighting for himself and telling people what he thinks they want to hear.
"He's still the worst kind of politician."
