President Joe Biden tried to stoke fears in a speech last week — saying that if Donald Trump is elected in November, there will be "revenge and retribution" against his political enemies.
But Trump told an Iowa town hall on Wednesday night in Des Moines that even though he would have cause, given the various attacks made against him during and after his presidency, he will be spending too much time fixing what ails the U.S. to deal with retribution.
The town hall, moderated by Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum of Fox News, occurred five days before Monday's Iowa caucuses kick off the GOP primary schedule.
"A lot of people would say that's not so bad," Trump said in response to a question from Baier. "Look what they did. Russia, Russia, Russia hoax. The FBI-Twitter hoax. The '51 intelligence agents' hoax. All of these different hoaxes that they did, and a lot of people would say, That's probably quite normal [to seek revenge].
"I'm not going to have time for retribution. We're going to make this country so successful again, I'm not going to have time for retribution. Remember this, our ultimate retribution is success."
