Donald Trump's eldest daughter staunchly defends the brash — and sometimes insulting — GOP presumptive presidential nominee, lauding him for having "elevated" the political discussion in America.

In an interview with the London-based Telegraph posted Friday, Ivanka Trump — described as her father's most influential adviser — said the country is just learning about "who he really is."

"He has elevated — he has created a dialogue around issues, which really is a powerful thing," she tells the Telegraph. "When you think about leadership it's setting the agenda, and he has set the agenda on all the issues that were discussed. And I think that is quite powerful."

She admits the sharp criticism of her father can be painful, but she insists it's also "often wrong."

"The positions are often taken by people who don't know him," she tells the newspaper. "But I'm pretty thick skinned."

Ivanka Trump is executive vice president of development and acquisitions at the Trump Organization, and also operates her own jewelry and accessories lines.

She credits her father's guidance.

"He is someone who has been an incredible parent for me," she tells the newspaper. "An incredible mentor to me, as a parent, and also for the past decade having worked alongside him."

"I've seen him as an executive inspire the team, set a vision, give people the freedom to reform but always watching them and ensuring the vision for the company is being carried out correctly," she says. "It's hard. I've been incredibly impressed by his leadership. I think his leadership is now being shown on a larger scale."

And of her well-documented friendship with another child of famously political parents, Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump says there's no friction.

"We are not navigating the friendship," she tells the Telegraph. "We view ourselves as our own people. And that is separate from the politics."
