Trump: Ken Paxton 'Talented,' Good Choice for AG

By    |   Monday, 20 May 2024 02:28 PM EDT

Former President Donald Trump on Monday praised Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and said he would consider naming him to head the Justice Department if reelected in November.

Trump, during an interview with a local Fox affiliate at the National Rifle Association convention in Dallas this week, said that he would consider selecting Paxton to serve as U.S. Attorney General.

"He's very, very talented," Trump added. "I mean, we have a lot of people that want that one and will be very good at it. But he's a very talented guy."

The former president went on to say that he "fought for" Paxton during his impeachment last year. Paxton was later acquitted by the Texas state Senate.

Trump previously said on social media that he "saved Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton from going down at the hands of Democrats and some Republicans."

"He had some people really after him, and I thought it was very unfair," Trump said on Monday. "He's been a good attorney general."

Paxton has also recently shared supportive words for Trump, writing on social media that his ongoing criminal trial in New York City over payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels is a "sham," and "a travesty of justice."
