Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim American Army captain killed in the Iraq War, was most upset by Donald Trump's plan to limit Muslim immigration, Trump told an Ohio television station on Monday.
"Well, I was very viciously attacked, as you know, on the stage,," Trump told ABC6 in Columbus, according to BuzzFeed.
"And I was surprised to see it. And so all I did — I have great honor and great feeling for his son, Mr. Khan’s son. But, and as far as I’m concerned, he’s a hero," Trump said.
Trump said that border security is "a very big subject for me," adding that "when you have radical Islamic terrorists probably all over the place, we’re allowing them to come in by the thousands and thousands. And I think that’s what bothered Mr. Khan more than anything else.:
Khan was critical of Trump in a Thursday night speech before the Democratic National Convention. He pulled out a pocket version of the U.S. Constitution, offering to let Trump read it.
Trump has drawn fire even from other Republicans after he responded to Khan's attack, suggesting that his wife, Ghazala, was not allowed to speak because she is Muslim.
Ghazala Khan has since spoken out, saying she was too upset to speak while a giant picture of her son was shown behind her.
Trump told ABC6 he has no plans to change his views on limiting Muslim immigration.
"We have radical Islamic terrorists coming in that have to be stopped," Trump said. "We’re taking them in by the thousands."
