Donald Trump has used social media extensively during his presidential campaign, but he said Monday he would stop using Twitter if he becomes president.

Trump made the confession to a crowd in Warwick, R.I.

"You know, I tweeted today, @realDonaldTrump. I tweet," Trump said, reports Politico.

"Don't worry, I'll give it up after I'm president. We won't tweet anymore. I don't know. Not presidential."

Trump's vow came after his wife Melania said last week she hopes he'll give up using the social media network.

When asked by Savannah Guthrie on NBC's "Today Show" what habit she wishes her husband would give up, she paused for a few moments before saying, "tweeting."

Trump has used Twitter throughout his campaign, using the platform to reach his 7.76 million followers.

Some of his comments on the micro-blogging site, however, have stirred controversy. He has criticized Fox News host Megyn Kelly on several occasions in 140 characters or less, and has attacked his opponents countless times.

Last month, Trump retweeted a photo that ridiculed the wife of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, his main rival in the Republican race for president.

Trump is the leading candidate in the GOP race with 845 delegate votes. Cruz is second with 559, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 148.
